Facilities: Unit for
Broilers in battery
Unit size is 4.8 m x 9.4 m . Insulation is optimal and has a
single sloped roof with its main facade facing south.
Ventilation is natural. Artificial lighting is controlled by a
timer, which can be programmed to any required photoperiod, to an
intensity of 5 lux.
The unit is equipped with an stair-step battery in 3 levels,
with 9 cages on each side and each level, in total 54 cages. Up to 6
birds can be placed in each cage (580 cm2/bird), thus allowing a total
number of 324.
Each row and side of the battery has an independent drinking water tank (that
is, 6 tanks in total). Each cage holds 2 cup drinkers and one feeder
outside the cage. Droppings are collected in the pit on the floor.
Broilers are marketed at 40-45 days, thus allowing 6 crops a year. The
placing of day-old chicks and the marketing of the broilers are
coincident with the same operations in a nearby house for broilers on
the floor, for obvious sanitary reasons.
