Facilities: Unit
for broilers on litter
It is a prefabricated unit measuring 12 x 21.2 m.
Day old chicks are grown in 24 pens, divided by 2 aisles of
1.5 m width, in 3 groups of 8 compartments each. Each pen is 2.35 x 3.00
m.
The building is well insulated and has computerized forced
ventilation. In summer, a cooling system is being operated by means of
nozzles. The thermostatically regulated heating system is double: by
infrared heaters and hot air, both by propane gas. Artificial lighting
is supplied with a timer to any photoperiod required, with an intensity
of 5 lux.
Total capacity is 2000 birds till marketing, at 40-45 days of age. The
real bird density in the pens is 11.8 broilers/m2, with 83 birds per pen.
Growing is done on a bedding of wood shavings. Each pen is equipped with
2 hoppers and 6 nipple drinkers.
Each year 6 batches of broilers are grown, thus allowing
a period of 2 weeks between crops, when the premises will be cleaned
and disinfected.
